THE PLAY

So I have been directing the play over at New Horizon's High School. It is a play that was written by the school's English teacher, Mr. Larry Clark. The title of the play is Manny's Magic Coins. It is about a lip-sync contest that takes place in a diner in the 1950's. It has been a real learning experience for me.

Just for those of you who do not know, New Horizon's is an alternative school. This is like the last chance school for kids to get their diploma without having to get a GED. Many have babies, full time jobs and other obligations on top of regular school obligations.

We have two weeks left before we have to put this play on for the rest of the school. Also, Mr. Clark, who is the "drama" teacher is out until...we don't exactly know. He has cancer and had surgery over in Seattle. These kids are trying so hard with so much working against them. I really hope that I can help make this happen for them and for Mr. Clark. If the play does not go up all the kids get an F. As is with theater it is a group project and should be. Theater teaches confidence, respect and how to work in a group. It is so benifical to these kids.

So that is what has been going on over here. I have been going everyday and believe that it will pay off.
