Hello Fellow Bloggers. Well, have the Howe's ever been busy. Our house in Mill Creek Finally sold October 10th. After a year and a half on the market, thanks to our wonderfully talented agent Kimberly, who studiously kept putting it on Craig's' list. Thank you so much, our sweet girl.
Then I hit the big 3-0 on October 15th which was celebrated with good food, good friends and good music. We went to the Sara Barellis, who sings; I'm not going to write you a "Love Song", Concert at the Moore theater in downtown Seattle. The following morning we caught the first flight out to Cabo San Lucas, for a week of relaxing in the sun.
By the way to all who do not know yet. We are expecting our first addition to the Howe family on March 27th, 2009. We have decided to wait for the big surprise of finding out what it is going to be till the happy day comes. The first trimester was a little rough, which is part of the blame for the lag time in blogging, but we are breaking through the morning, noon, night and anytime in between sickness and seeing and feeling the joy of growing a little person.
Going back to Cabo...although it is a trip we will never forget I really want to write down all that happened as a way to remember and let everyone know how it was. I may get a little winded but hopefully you enjoy the story.
To begin, we landed at the airport, having never gone through customs before it is quite a wait. We had to fill out 3 different slips of paper to let them know the "who, when, what, why, where and how's" of our trip, then push a little red button and wait a moment we knew we had finally started our vacation. As the sliding doors opened to the next room we were barraged by men we thought were there to help us. As it turns out, 20 minutes later, they are trying to get you to go to a time share presentation. We walked out thinking, how do we get to our hotel, without having to see a timeshare presentation? Lucky for us we caught the shuttle for a mere $15 per person and it only took 40 minutes, instead of the hour and a half the time share guy said. The driver also stopped so Adrian and another passenger could by beer.
At the hotel, a liaison helped get the bell boy, show us to the front desk, told us about some different things we could do in Cabo then wanted to set up and appointment to view a time share presentation. We Started to notice a pattern of behavior. We said no thank you and went to our room to clean up and go out and find some food.
Our room was on the second floor and had a wonderful view of the pool and marina. It also felt so good because it was air conditioned. We sweated like white people in Mexico the whole time we were down there. So every time we got to our room it was like a little slice of heaven.
The food is amazing in Cabo. Everything is so very fresh and so so yummy. I think when we went down there that was my biggest fear, being pregnant and not knowing what food will be good and not being fluent in the Spanish language. The beauty of it is that almost all the menus are in English as well as Spanish.
One night while we were at dinner a gentleman named Antonio, drew a charterer of us and we also charted a fishing boat with him for the next morning at 7am. For a half day (knowing that I was starting to get used to my afternoon naps in the heat of the day) in the Pacific Ocean to catch Marlin, on his 28 foot fishing boat. It was an amazing day. We were out to sea about 30 miles, possibly even further, when fish started hooking onto our lines. Adrian was the first to reel it in. It was quite a spectacle. About 10 seconds later our capt. hooked the second fish. It probably took a good 10 - 20 minutes to reel them both in. They weren't Marlin's but Mahi-Mahi. They were a good 30 lbs and from about the floor to my bust in length. I caught the next two and what an amazing rush it is to work and pull those wonderful creatures in. We got some pictures and some video footage, as well, which will be coming in my next installment. Not to long after that both Adrian and I discovered that we do get motion sickness on the ocean. Lucky for us the captain who knew I was pregnant looked at my ailing face and asked if we wanted to go back and which point I said "please". We let Antonio keep all the fish (which I can't eat being pregnant anyway).
Another big adventure we did which we both thought was the highlight of the trip; we swam with the dolphins. There is this place called Cabo Dolphins where you can go into a salt water pool and swim with Dolphins. We got an hour to swim and it went by so quickly because it was so cool! They have about 5 groups go at a time and each group gets a dolphin. They give you life jackets and then you get in the water and your group makes a semi circle and the dolphin swims around you. You hold out your hands and it rubs up against you. It feels so smooth to the touch. It gives everyone a kiss. Then you go out in pairs and hold up a stick and the dolphin jumps over it while you are holding it. One at a time everyone swims out to the middle of the pool and the dolphin swims by and you grab on to the dorsal fin at the base and hang on for dear life as it pulls you along. In theory we all thought that was harder sounding than it actually is. Adrian was the first to go and got to show the group how it was done. It was something we will both never forget.
Among our other adventures included a day at the spa, a tour on one of the glass bottom taxi boats, swimming at the pool, eating, exploring the shanty stores, listing to a 2 man band play in one of the cantina's, eating, and trying not to get roped into seeing a timeshare presentation. One other thing that was very interesting, was how many people kept asking my husband if he wanted to get high after he told them no to the silver they were first trying to sell us. These Mexicans are very hard workers.
We made it back to the states safe and sound without getting sick, without getting sun burned and with many wonderful memories. We are now looking forward to purchasing our first house together, in order to get ready for baby and get Titus back, but with a lot less stress on our shoulders.
It truly was amazing.
